Matthew Sampar is a Partner in our New York City office, and handles matters involving asbestos/toxic torts, product liability, and complex litigation.  Matt serves his clients in a variety of capacities, including as National Coordinating Counsel for several major clients in toxic tort litigation.  While Matt has defended clients at hundreds of depositions, drafted appellate briefings and made oral arguments before appellate courts, and otherwise successfully managed the resolution of thousands of cases over the course of his career,  his specialty is motion practice.  Matt has won numerous motions to dismiss or motions for summary judgment in New York City courts, predicated on such diverse bases as lack of personal jurisdiction, successor liability, corporate dissolution statutes, and alleged product identification through U.S. Navy documents.  Matt was one of the first attorneys to raise the issue of personal jurisdiction to prominence, based on recent United States Supreme Court precedent, as an aspect of defense in the NYCAL.  Today, Matt works to develop effective and efficient long-term “big picture” defense strategies for his clients.

While attending law school, Matt was a Senior Member of the Seton Hall School of Law Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law, and published “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide: Why Heavy Metal Musicians Cannot Be Held Responsible for the Violent Acts of Their Listeners”, 15 Seton Hall Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law 173 (2005).  Matt and his wife live in Weehawken, New Jersey, and they are the proud parents of their young daughter and son.
