Malik Caldwell is an associate attorney at The Cook Group, based in the firm’s Chicago office. His practice focuses on product liability, toxic tort, personal injury defense, and employment law.
Malik has extensive experience defending manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers in complex litigation, including claims related to asbestos exposure and other personal injury matters. He has also represented plaintiffs in employment law cases involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes. Malik’s approach to litigation is thorough and strategic, from conducting comprehensive evaluations of medical records and scientific evidence to crafting effective defense strategies and negotiating favorable settlements.
Malik earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law, where he served as a Teaching Fellow in Torts, a member of the National Moot Court Team, and Academic Chair of the Black Law Students Association. He also worked with the University’s Veterans Clinic, advocating for military veterans in need of legal assistance. Malik holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in Black Studies from the University of Missouri.
He is admitted to practice in Illinois, Missouri, and before the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Missouri and the Southern District of Illinois.
Outside of his legal practice, Malik has a strong commitment to community involvement. He previously served as a volunteer head basketball coach for the Columbia Youth Basketball Association and was honored as a National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 member in 2024.
